Whether window vinyls should be installed on the inside or outside of the glass largely depends on your priorities, such as durability, appearance, or ease of installation. Here’s what you need to know to make the best decision for your project.
Installing your window graphics on the inside of a window has several advantages. Firstly, the graphics are protected by the glass from weather, dirt, accidental damage, and general wear and tear. This means that the graphics usually last longer and retain their glossy, polished, and pristine look, creating a great impression on visitors and customers.
However… there are sometimes challenges associated with inside installations. For example, on some windows, they often require access at height, especially when furnishings, shelves, radiators, pot plants, and other obstacles are in the way. This can make installation slightly more time-consuming and challenging.
The main benefit of installing a vinyl window graphic on the outside of window is ease of access. Without the physical barriers often found in doors, the installation process is usually faster and requires less specialist equipment. The drawback, of course, is damage from the elements, so vinyls designed for exterior installation have to be weatherproof, with a print process that enables the graphic to stand up to rain, sunlight, and wind. Even so, external graphics don’t always last as long as inside graphics.
